Lewis nursing from Indiana: what the licensure No means
Lewis authorizes Indiana residents to enroll in every online graduate nursing program, yet all twelve of its nurse practitioner tables mark Indiana as not meeting licensure requirements. Read that before you apply: an NP track may not lead to NP licensure in Indiana. Lewis's Indiana row, program by program
Lewis's March 2026 disclosure tables give Indiana the same enrollment answer on all 20 graduate nursing tables: Yes. The licensure column is where Indiana parts ways with Michigan, Kentucky and Wisconsin. Every nurse practitioner route reads No, whether you come in through an MSN concentration, a BSN to DNP track or a post-master's certificate.

What the No means before you enroll
In plain terms, Lewis is telling Indiana nurses that finishing its NP curriculum may not satisfy what Indiana requires for an NP license. Every NP table also carries a footnote that clinical rotations in a given state can face restrictions of their own.
Settle this before you apply, not after your first practicum. Ask Lewis's graduate admissions office, the contact Lewis names on every table, how the Indiana No affects your plans. Then ask Indiana's nursing board, housed in the state's Professional Licensing Agency, what it would expect of a Lewis graduate. Keep both answers in writing.

The Illinois route Lewis describes
Lewis's graduate FAQ tells out-of-state students they may obtain licensure in Illinois and complete the practicum in Illinois. The Census counts 728,743 Indiana residents inside the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metro area, and for many of them Illinois clinics are a manageable drive.
Indiana's multistate licenses date from July 1, 2020, when it implemented the compact. Illinois remains outside it, so that privilege ends where Illinois begins, and an Illinois agency will want to see an Illinois RN license on file before it clears you.
This route earns an Illinois NP license. It does not change Lewis's Indiana entry, so practicing as an NP in Indiana later remains a question for the Indiana board. The clinicals outside Illinois guide covers the Illinois license option in depth.
Indiana settings for the non-NP programs
Programs outside the NP tables may still use Indiana settings, with Lewis's permission. Indiana's board limits its program accreditation to schools preparing people for a first RN or LPN license and states that graduate nursing programs sit outside its review. Our research turned up no Indiana sign-off an out-of-state graduate school must obtain before its students train in the state. A post-master's DNP residency is one example: Lewis holds it in person at the chosen practice setting, on a license from the residency state.
On AANP's map Indiana is reduced practice, meaning an Indiana NP works under a state-regulated physician collaboration that covers one or more parts of the role. Among the state's biggest systems are Franciscan Health, Parkview Health, IU Health (Indiana University Health), Ascension St. Vincent and Community Health Network, spread across the Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Louisville-side markets. Research recorded no Indiana preceptor tax credit or incentive.

Can I enroll in Lewis's online FNP program if I live in Indiana?
Yes. Lewis's disclosure tables authorize enrollment from Indiana in every graduate nursing program. The same FNP tables mark Indiana No for meeting licensure requirements, which means the program may not lead to FNP licensure in Indiana. Talk with Lewis's graduate admissions office and the Indiana State Board of Nursing before you commit.
Will an Indiana compact license let me train at an Illinois clinic?
No. Indiana belongs to the compact and Illinois does not, so Indiana's multistate privilege has no reach across the border. If you follow Lewis's Illinois route, you need an Illinois RN license before an Illinois agency will clear you, so apply well ahead of your first 16-week practicum.
Is the Lewis post-master's certificate any different for Indiana?
No. The four Certificate of Advanced Study tables match the MSN and BSN to DNP tables for Indiana: enrollment Yes, licensure No. The states where the certificate and MSN answers split are Connecticut and Hawaii, not Indiana, and Lewis explains neither split.
Can a Lewis DNP student complete the residency in Indiana?
Lewis's DNP table authorizes Indiana enrollment and has no licensure column, because the DNP leads to no separate state license. The residency calls for an RN license from the residency state, plus Lewis's approval of the setting and preceptor. Confirm the Indiana setting with your faculty before you file the contract request.
Why does Lewis mark Indiana as not meeting licensure requirements?
Lewis's tables give no reason, and the Indiana board's own page says it does not review graduate programs. Rather than guess, ask Lewis's graduate admissions office for the reason and for what it means for your track, and keep the reply with your records.
