Michigan practicums for Lewis nursing students
On Lewis's tables Michigan is a Yes twice over: enrollment authorized, and NP licensure requirements met on every route. What shapes a Michigan practicum is Michigan itself. It has not signed on to the multistate nurse compact, so the RN license behind your Michigan clinicals must be Michigan-issued, and AANP counts it among the restricted-practice states.

What Lewis's Michigan row shows
Michigan reads Yes for enrollment across all 20 of Lewis's graduate nursing tables and Yes in the licensure column of all 12 NP tables. Lewis links the Michigan Board of Nursing, which sits within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

School Nurse is the exception here, as it is everywhere outside Illinois. Lewis's NP footnote about possible limits on clinical rotations in a designated state still stands, so treat a Yes as the point where planning begins.
Michigan's stance on schools from other states
Nothing in the Michigan Board of Nursing's published rules, as research read them, obliges a school based elsewhere to seek clearance or send notice before Michigan clinicals begin. Its program-approval rules (Mich. Admin. Code R 338.10301 and the sections after it) are written for schools inside Michigan. For licensure purposes, a program based outside Michigan counts through its national accreditor, ACEN, CNEA or CCNE, rather than through board approval, and Lewis's graduate programs hold CCNE accreditation. The board was not contacted, so read this as a summary of its published rules.
The restricted rating is about prescribing: controlled-substance prescriptions by a Michigan NP require a physician's delegation. A Michigan NP preceptor may therefore handle part of that work under delegation, and Lewis's Clinical Coordinators or track lead faculty weigh the fit when they approve the site.
A Michigan RN license, and a look at your preceptor's
With HB 4246 still pending, Michigan grants no practice privilege to a multistate license from Wisconsin, Indiana or anywhere else. Plan on a Michigan RN license, and expect three extras on the application: a criminal background check, human trafficking identification training taken once, and two hours of implicit bias training completed within five years of licensure.
Michigan's NP specialty certification builds on a Michigan RN license and depends on national certification from a certifier on the board's recognized list. Check both whenever a Michigan NP is in the running; Lewis's contract review looks at the preceptor as well as the site. Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Flint
Census 2025 estimates put 4,390,913 people in Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, 1,183,645 in Grand Rapids-Wyoming-Kentwood, 479,722 in Lansing-East Lansing and 401,093 in Flint. Henry Ford Health and Corewell Health have the widest reach, along with McLaren Health Care, Trinity Health Michigan and Michigan Medicine (University of Michigan Health). Use them as a map for your search, not as sites already arranged for Lewis; any clinic new to Lewis needs an affiliation agreement before you start.
Incentives are thin. The one state effort research found was a pilot in which the MDHHS Office of Nursing Programs partnered with MSU's nursing college on incentives for preceptors of MSU FNP and PMHNP students. MDHHS lists it as completed, it was limited to MSU, and research shows no enacted Michigan preceptor tax credit.

Does Lewis's online FNP program meet Michigan licensure requirements?
Lewis says yes. Its FNP tables for the MSN, the BSN to DNP and the certificate all show Michigan as Yes for enrollment and Yes for licensure. That answers the curriculum question; Michigan's board still runs its own steps, including NP specialty certification that rests on a Michigan RN license and national certification.
Can I use a Wisconsin or Indiana multistate license for a Michigan practicum?
Not while Michigan stays out of the Nurse Licensure Compact. HB 4246 would change that if it passes, but today a Michigan practicum runs on a Michigan RN license. Build the background check and the two required trainings into your timeline well before your first 16-week practicum.
Will Michigan's board need to sign off on Lewis first?
Research found no Michigan Board of Nursing rule requiring that; the board's approval rules address programs located in Michigan. Lewis's own steps still apply in full: your contract request in the portal, review, approval by faculty, and an affiliation agreement where the agency has none with Lewis.
Is there a Michigan incentive for NP preceptors?
Not one open to preceptors of Lewis students. The MDHHS pilot with Michigan State University is listed as completed and served only MSU's FNP and PMHNP students, and Michigan has no preceptor tax credit on record in our research. Michigan preceptors who take a Lewis student gain a prepared learner and a clear 16-week plan.
