How we work with Lewis nursing students

From your first message to your first clinical day

1. You describe the practicumYour track, the course coming next, its semester, your home area and the days you can give each week. The form below takes a few minutes.
2. We read the course before we searchThe title sets the target: NURS 61100 points to adult primary care, NURS 64300 to infants and children, NURS 63300 to psychiatric assessment across the lifespan, and NURS 62500 to hospital acute care. Anything the catalog leaves unclear goes on a short list for your track coordinator.
3. We search around your homeYour placement advisor approaches practices near where you live and commute, explains the Lewis practicum and asks for a commitment covering all 16 weeks.
4. We verify before we introduceEach preceptor's license is looked up for discipline with IDFPR or the board in the site's state. We confirm the agency's legal name and address, who signs school agreements there, and any student intake it runs, such as a myClinicalExchange request.
5. You file a complete requestFrom a portal account made with your Lewis email, you submit the contract request using the set of details we give you. Lewis's review, any new agreement and faculty approval follow.
6. We keep onboarding on scheduleWe track what the agency asks for and by when, remind you that every document goes to the agency and to the Clinical Placement Office, and compare your CastleBranch expiry dates with the end of the term.
7. We stay reachable all semesterIf a preceptor cuts clinic days or leaves, the replacement search opens that day, and the search for your next practicum begins while the current one is still running.

Set against Lewis's calendar

Every Lewis NP practicum runs the full 16-week semester beside its management course, and approval lets you begin when the semester named on your request opens. The next opening days on Lewis's calendar are January 19, 2027 for spring and May 17, 2027 for summer. We schedule each search backward from dates like these, rather than forward from whenever the search happens to start.

Two waits sit between filing and day one. Review alone takes two weeks at the least, by Lewis's legend, and a site without a current agreement holds the request in review until the agency signs. Large health systems add their own intake calendars on top. The planning timeline shows how far ahead each milestone should land.

Every practicum in your plan

One search is rarely the last. FNP students need approved preceptors for NURS 61100, NURS 61800, NURS 64100 and NURS 64300, while AGACNP, AGPCNP and PMHNP students need them for three practicums. Certificate of Advanced Study students take the same practicums, and BSN to DNP students go on to NURS 79600 residencies in person at a practice setting.

We keep a single running plan for each student. As one practicum settles, the next search starts, so each semester opens with a preceptor already confirmed instead of a list still being worked. Nursing Education, Healthcare Systems Leadership and School Nurse students can use the same approach for NURS 54700, NURS 59600 or NURS 56700, once their track coordinator confirms how that practicum is arranged.
