Lewis nurse practitioner programs and Massachusetts licensure
Lewis authorizes enrollment from Massachusetts, yet every one of its nurse practitioner tables, MSN, BSN to DNP and certificate alike, marks the program as not meeting Massachusetts licensure requirements. Massachusetts on Lewis's tables: Yes to enroll, No to licensure
Lewis's NC-SARA disclosures, created in March 2026 and linked from its Accreditation and Licensure page, give Massachusetts two different answers. Authorized for Enrollment reads Yes on all 20 graduate nursing tables. Meets Licensure Requirements reads No on all 12 NP tables, the same pattern Lewis shows for Indiana and Mississippi.

What the No means for a Massachusetts nurse
On Lewis's own reading, completing its NP curriculum does not meet the educational requirements for NP licensure in Massachusetts. If you plan to practice as an NP in Massachusetts after graduating, settle that with Lewis's graduate admissions office and the Board of Registration in Nursing before you enroll.
The enrollment Yes means Lewis will admit you from Massachusetts; it does not soften the licensure column. Lewis's catalog also leaves it to each student to watch for changes in outside licensure rules while enrolled, so reread the table every year.
Yes to enroll plus No to licensure is a caution, not a clearance. Get Lewis's and the board's answer on how you would be licensed before your first course.
How Massachusetts treats clinicals by schools based elsewhere
Massachusetts writes its rule for visiting schools into regulation, 244 CMR 6.03(2). A program like Lewis's, run by a parent institution in another state, would owe the board two filings: a yearly institutional application (Part A), lodged no later than six months ahead of the first placement, then a separate placement application (Part B) for every student site, lodged a month or more ahead. Nobody starts until the board's letter arrives, and one preceptor may take no more than two students.
Read closely, the board's page describes programs that prepare people for the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN and never mentions graduate or APRN programs, so its reach over a Lewis NP practicum is unsettled. AANP scores the state full practice, reached after two years alongside a qualifying APRN or physician. Mass General Brigham and Beth Israel Lahey Health are the largest names, with UMass Memorial Health, Baystate Health and Boston Medical Center close behind, but given the licensure No, raise any Massachusetts site with Lewis before it goes near the portal.
Your RN license: compact enacted, not yet in effect
Massachusetts signed on to the Nurse Licensure Compact in November 2024, though the compact only switches on once the board finishes implementing it, and the board's target for that is May 2027. Until then, a multistate license from New Hampshire, Maine or any other compact state carries no Massachusetts practice privilege; a Massachusetts RN license comes through the state's ordinary application.
Lewis's FAQ gives every out-of-state student one route: get an Illinois RN license and complete the practicum in Illinois. Illinois sits outside the compact, so that means a license from IDFPR. Can I enroll in Lewis's online FNP program from Massachusetts?
Lewis's tables authorize enrollment from Massachusetts, so admission is possible. The same FNP table marks the program as not meeting Massachusetts licensure requirements, which means the degree may not qualify you for an NP license there. Speak with Lewis's graduate admissions office and the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing about your licensure plan before enrolling.
Would a Lewis post-master's certificate work for Massachusetts NP licensure?
Lewis's four Certificate of Advanced Study tables also mark Massachusetts No for licensure, so the certificate carries the same caution as the MSN. Unlike Connecticut and Hawaii, where Lewis's certificate and MSN tables disagree, Massachusetts reads No on every NP route; the certificate guide covers the programs.
When will the Nurse Licensure Compact take effect in Massachusetts?
The board's stated aim is May 2027. Enactment came in November 2024, and conditional clearance to run the FBI criminal background checks the compact needs arrived in May 2026. Until the board announces the switch, nurses from other compact states keep applying for a Massachusetts license.
Is Lewis's DNP an option for a Massachusetts nurse?
Lewis authorizes DNP enrollment from Massachusetts, and its DNP table carries no licensure column, since Lewis says the degree leads to no separate state license. Plan for a residency done in person at your practice setting, an RN license valid in that setting's state, and trips to Oak Brook for the two DNP Immersions the catalog requires.
