NP preceptors in Kane and Kendall counties, from Aurora to Elgin

Kane's five hospitals and their student routes

IDPH's Hospital Report Card lists five hospitals across the two counties, every one in Kane: Advocate Sherman in Elgin, Northwestern Medicine Delnor in Geneva, Rush Copley in Aurora, and two Prime Healthcare hospitals, Mercy Medical Center in Aurora and Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin.

Advocate Sherman is covered by Advocate Health Care's placement page, which describes a route for Illinois inpatient NP students, school-side requests and onboarding in myClinicalExchange, and a plain statement that Advocate does not find preceptors for Illinois NP rotations. The preceptor must be settled before the request can go in.

Delnor falls under Northwestern Medicine's west-suburbs practicum page. That page handles RN-to-BSN and MSN practicum requests and says outright that APRN students completing patient-care hours should not use its application; Northwestern posts no separate APRN form for these hospitals.

Rush's public rotation page covers Rush Oak Park only, and Prime Healthcare, which bought Mercy and Saint Joseph from Ascension on March 1, 2025, has no public student page for its Illinois hospitals, so all three are landmarks where a preceptor may practice rather than application routes. Prime also announced on September 1, 2026 that obstetric services at Mercy in Aurora would be suspended as it consolidates OB care. Delnor and Rush Copley are both named among the agencies Lewis lists for its undergraduate BSN rotations.

Lining up Lewis practicums in Kane and Kendall

Each Lewis NP practicum runs 16 weeks and calls for a particular kind of preceptor. In this region, students look here:

• NURS 61100 and NURS 61800: adult and family primary care offices in Aurora, Elgin, St. Charles, Geneva and Oswego, plus the four health center organizations above.
• NURS 64100 and NURS 64300 (FNP): women's health and pediatric primary care, including family medicine offices that see both; the women's and pediatric practicum guide covers the two courses.
• NURS 61500 (AGPCNP): adult-gerontology primary care with the special population your course sets.
• NURS 62500 and NURS 62700 (AGACNP): inpatient teams at the Kane hospitals, where Advocate Sherman is the one system whose own page describes an inpatient NP route.
• NURS 63300, NURS 63500 and NURS 63700 (PMHNP): outpatient psychiatric practices and health centers seeing patients across the lifespan.

Every site still needs approval from a Clinical Coordinator or your track lead faculty and a contract request in the CONHS portal, which the identifying preceptors guide walks through.
